HTV (heat transfer vinyl) is cut from colored sheets of vinyl; DTF is printed full color onto film. For a name and number, HTV is quick and cheap. For anything with real color or detail, DTF wins easily.
With HTV, a cutter slices your shapes out of a solid sheet of vinyl, you "weed" away the excess by hand, and press what's left. Each color is a separate sheet and a separate layer. DTF prints the whole design — every color, gradient, and fine line — in one pass, then presses as a single transfer.

One color and mostly text → HTV is fine. Color, detail, or more than a layer or two → DTF is faster, cleaner, and usually cheaper once you count the weeding time.
